Definition
Pad: Synth equivalent of a slow moving orchestral string section.
Common Properties
- Slow envelopes
- Large spatial spread
- Slight detune/unison sound
Some tricks to create a good pad
- use a HyperOsc or a set of different slightly detuned oscs to create a solid base
- try using a reverb with a long tail combined with a shorter envelope for the pad.. sometimes the buildup in the reverb will smear out the envelope enough.
- use a bandpass/lowpass with a slow envelope (note: this may mean you need to shorten the volume-envelope, as the filtering will also remove some volume already)
